TeleHealth sessions are conducted using doxy.me, a video platform that’s easy to use and HIPAA compliant. Therapy can provide a safe and nurturing environment where you can share experiences and fears without judgment. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy is an integrative approach that has been extensively researched and proven effective for the treatment of trauma, EMDR is also an effective method used for managing anxiety, fear, depressive symptoms and negative self beliefs that often keep us stuck.

Insurance
To provide you with the most personal and confidential therapy services, I do not submit billing to insurance organizations. Your Insurance provider may pay for out-of-network services, depending on your plan. Alternatively, you can use your FSA or HSA to cover services. Please check your coverage carefully.

What to expect. During our first appointment we'll begin discussing the changes you'd like to see happening in your life, your expectations, and begin developing a treatment plan. Together, we'll create a "counseling roadmap" so you know where we're going and indicators that tell us when we get there.

Why EMDR?
Sometimes negative experiences, memories or traumas that aren't processed properly can result in increased anxiety, depression, reactivity, nightmares and feeling triggered.
Eye Movement, Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) speeds up processing of distressing experiences and memories by stimulating both the emotional and intellectual parts of our brain, similar to the REM sleep cycle, therefore reducing anxiety. Statistics report fast and positive outcome rates for most clients treated with EMDR.

How does EMDR work?
During EMDR, a therapist works with the client to identify disturbing issues that get locked in the brain. EMDR therapy uses eye movement, auditory or tactile stimulation, which repeatedly activates the opposite sides of the brain, releasing emotional experiences that are "trapped" in the nervous system. This assists the neurophysiological system, the basis of the mind/body connection, to free itself of blockages. By the end of the session, most client's report a decreased level of distress.
Who performs EMDR?
EMDR trained professionals are required to complete 2 phases of training in addition to supervised consultation. Please ask your therapist about their qualifications and experience in dealing with your particular issue. EMDR may be used as an adjunct to traditional therapy with a separate therapist or as a treatment by itself.
How long does EMDR take?
One or two sessions at the onset of therapy are required to answer questions, identify issues and determine if EMDR is right for you. Once EMDR therapy begins, the amount and types of issues will determine how many sessions are necessary. Each session lasts 50 minutes.
Does EMDR really work?
Controlled studies consistently found that EMDR effectively decreases or eliminates symptoms of intrusive thoughts, nightmares and anxiety for the majority of clients.

Here's what happens: Something stressful comes up. It may be related to work, finances, relationships, family, or even your history. Your amygdala, an almond-shaped part of your midbrain, senses danger and initiates your body’s "fight-or-flight" response to stress. The body releases adrenaline and cortisol (known as the stress hormone), diverting blood away from your major internal organs and into your large muscle groups, leaving you less able to digest food and absorb nutrients (and in the long term, retain weight).
As these stressful thoughts continue over time, your blood pressure increases while your body's immune response decreases. Your brain’s creative center is deemed "nonessential" and shuts down. Down go your problem-solving abilities, your creative skills, and your intuition. In this physiological "crisis mode," you’re more vulnerable to chronic illnesses like arthritis, fibromyalgia, headaches, stomach ulcers, and more. You feel increasingly irritable, isolated, and impatient. Your relationships suffer. Your sleep quality diminishes, and your metabolism slows.
The prolonged effects of stress: After releasing too much cortisol for too long, your body goes into adrenal fatigue, making you feel depleted, exhausted, and depressed. You no longer have the energy to adhere to your exercise routine, your healthy eating, meditation, or yoga practices. Migraines, insomnia, stress-related hair loss, chronic pain, and any number of other issues become regular parts of your life. Battling low energy makes it tough to focus.

4-7-8 Breath: lower your stress and anxiety in one minute
One of the most effective stress management techniques I've discovered is the 4-7-8 Breath Exercise. Here’s how:
To get the most from this exercise, think about breathing into your diaphragm, not shallow "chest" breathing. Your stomach area should rise more than your chest. Practice breathing throughout the day and notice the difference!
- Sit or lay down comfortably.
- Close your mouth and inhale quietly through your nose, to a mental count of 4.
- Hold your breath for a count of 7.
- Exhale completely in one long breath through your mouth, to a count of 8.
- Now inhale again and repeat the cycle for a total of four breaths.
